Employers' Pension Provision Survey

Frequently asked questions

People who are invited to take part in surveys often feel unsure about whether they should take part and what they will need to do if they agree to help out.

Try looking at the list below and finding the answer to your question. If the answer is not there, you can contact us and ask us directly.

Who is the study for?

The study is being run by Kantar on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The DWP is a Government department that aims to create a new welfare system for the 21st century; to transform the opportunity for people without jobs to find work and support themselves and their families; and to ensure that the most vulnerable in society are protected, included and given pathways out of poverty.

How were you selected?

Employers were selected at random from the Interdepartmental Business Register (IDBR) held by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).  All private sector organisations across all industry sectors in Great Britain were included in the selection process.

Who in my organisation should take part?

The questionnaire should be completed by the person who makes decisions for your organisation about pension arrangements for employees.

If your organisation does not make any pension provision for its employees then the questionnaire should be completed by the person who makes the decisions about whether or not your company/organisation offers any pension arrangements to employees.

Why should you take part?

The purpose of the research is to provide an accurate picture of pension provision provided by employers in 2019, and to gather information about employers’ responses to workplace pension reforms.  The workplace pension reforms will apply to all employers regardless of size or current pension provision.  The information collected will provide valuable evidence to help the government review the implementation of these reforms. Every completed interview helps to provide a more accurate picture, so your participation matters.

Why should I complete the Interview Preparation Form
(companies with 20 or more employees)?

We need to make sure the information is as accurate as possible and are aware that you may need to collect some information from other people before the interviewer calls. To help you prepare in advance some of the details the interviewer will ask for when they call the interview preparation form provided covers some of the questions asked about your employees, organisation and any pension arrangements the company makes for any employees.

We would be grateful if you could complete this interview preparation form prior to the interviewer calling. The interviewer will ask you other questions as well as these, but you should be able to answer these without collecting information in advance.

Only companies with 20 or more employees across their whole organisation in Great Britain need to complete the interview preparation form.

How do I take part?

A telephone interviewer will call you to ask you to complete an interview over the telephone.

Can I arrange an appointment for an interview?

If you would like to arrange for a telephone interviewer to call at a specific time then please contact Sophia Jouahri at Kantar on 0800 015 5655 or by email at Sophia.Jouahri@kantarpublic.com

What will happen to my answers and the information I give us?

The information given by everyone who helps with the survey is combined and reports produced summarising the findings. Any information you provide will be held in the strictest of confidence and will be handled securely throughout the study. The research findings will not identify you or your organisation and no personal information will be shared with any third parties.
